About the Bachelor’s programme
The Bachelor’s degree programme in Art Direction at Westerdals educates visual leaders with analytical and creative skills, who have expertise in all kinds of media and communication channels. You will learn to exercise critical insight and ethical awareness and competence, enabling you to solve communication challenges and problems through high standard creative and visual communication.
The programme provides 180 credits.
Curriculum and courses
The first year introduces you to basic topics in market communication, communication theory and multimedia. An introduction to visual communication and management will be given, with emphasis on visual styles, visual genres, drawing, typography and art. Testing and experimentation is an important part of the programme.
In the second year students specialise in market communication and editorial communication. You get the opportunity to work with real projects and employers, through school assignments and in collaboration with clients and communication companies.
In the third year there is greater collaboration across the Bachelor’s programmes, especially with the Text & Copywriter programme. You will get the opportunity to specialise within the main areas of the Art Direction study, with optional courses in market communication, editorial communication and/or an independent visual expression. The year ends with an extended period of practical training and a dissertation.
Internship
During the teaching of your future profession, you will gain practical insights into processes, workflows and business areas. That is why the third-year includes a placement period of 8 weeks. You are free to choose an internship based on the areas you have immersed yourself in during the second year, something you are passionate about and want to pursue further.
Through the internship you are working with real projects and clients in for instance advertising and communication agencies, magazines, television production companies or with your own projects.
In addition, the internship is a good opportunity for dedicated students to display their abilities. It is not uncommon that skilful students are offered a permanent job.
Westerdals collaborate with a variety of industries and companies both nationally and internationally. Our students have completed their internship in a number of more or less exotic countries, such as Singapore, India, USA, France, England and Denmark.
