BACHELOR IN EXPERIENCE & EVENT*
With a Bachelor’s degree in Experience & Event, you can give people an experience they never forget. After the Bachelor’s programme you can, among other things, work with creating visual concepts for use in television, gaming and film production, or for concerts, festivals or plays. You can also work with exhibitions for galleries and museums or in advertising and event agencies. You choose a major in the course of the degree, determining whether you will become a designer or a producer in the adventure and event industry.
About the Bachelor’s programme
The Bachelor’s degree programme in Experience & Event provides broad expertise in theatrical communication processes, from text, strategy and message to visual concept, design, production and implementation. Access to digital tools and the development of online communication and distribution channels has made room for a democratisation of visual storytelling, communication and experience-based communication. Relevant examples can be digital museums, interactive advertising solutions and game production. Westerdals Experience & Event is at the forefront of formal design and content development in new media, and includes instruction in these subject areas throughout the programme.
The programme provides 180 credits.
Curriculum and courses
In the first year you learn about scenographic themes and tools you need to know to make good three-dimensional space solutions. You will be introduced to various commissions and market communicative genres and relevant issues, as well as ethical challenges related to market communication, market analysis, marketing management, brand identity and target audience thinking. You’ll get practical experience with different types of “live” venues, concerts and television productions that take place in the same room as the audience. You learn about the cultural, economic and social aspects of the event industry, and get practical experience in planning and executing events.
In the second year you learn about strategic communication, market communication and the role communication play in society. You will gain knowledge on how to become a competent and conscious producer. You also learn how to sell and present your work. In the fourth semester you can choose between two major areas of study, becoming either a practical designer or a producer within adventure and event industry.
In the third year you get the opportunity to work with events outside of Scandinavia. You will work with international companies or organisations, either as a producer or designer. You will specialise in assignment films such as commercials and music videos. You have the opportunity to collaborate with students from other Bachelor’s degrees at Westerdals, such as Film and TV. The study ends with a practice period and an independent dissertation.
Internship
To learn your future profession, you will gain practical insights into processes, workflows and business areas. Therefore, the third-year includes a placement period of 8 weeks. You are free to choose an internship based on the subject areas you have immersed yourself in during the second year; something you’re passionate about and want to pursue further.
Through the internship, you are working on real projects and clients in for instance advertising and communication agencies, magazines, television production companies or with your own projects.
In addition the internship is a good opportunity for dedicated students to display their abilities. It is not uncommon that skilful students are offered a permanent job.
Westerdals works with a variety of industries and companies nationally and internationally.
