WRITE YOURSELF INTO HISTORY WITH A
BACHELOR IN TEXT & COPYWRITER
With a Bachelor in Text and Copywriter, you can make yourself heard. After completing the programme, you can, among other things, develop creative concepts, work as a journalist, as a writer of novels or children’s literature, or as a writer of humour or screenplays. As a copywriter you might work in advertising and communication agencies, magazines, newspapers, with a publisher, a film and television production company or start your own business.
About the Bachelor’s programme
The Bachelor’s degree programme in Text & Copywriter at Westerdals educates performing writers with analytical and creative skills, who have expertise in various types of communication channels and the text universe of media. You learn about the profession’s international perspectives and the use of new technology. Through creative communication of high professional and ethical standard, you learn how to solve communication challenges and problems.
Furthermore, you specialise in three main areas:
In editorial communication you learn to develop ideas, concepts and writing for television, magazines, newspapers and radio.
In market communication you learn to mould the message to the sender’s benefit and purpose, and create good advertising in all media channels. You learn how to use thorough research and strategy in the design of creative communication.
In the arts oriented texts your own stories come into focus. You should find and develop your own language and expression, by working with the imagination; writing scripts for movies and books, and creating your own universe into which you can bring others.
The programme provides 180 credits.
Curriculum and courses
In the first year you get professional introduction and basic knowledge of communication through the syllabus and inspiring lectures. Theory is put into practice through specific projects and tasks, and you will develop your language, understanding of genres, and personal voice. The teaching combines one-to-one guidance, group seminars and comprehensive review in plenary.
In the second year market communication and editorial communication is brought into focus.
You learn the basic disciplines in advertising and various market communication, and are introduced to the editorial genres and thinking.
You will work within the various phases in a process consisting of strategy, creative phase and publishing. Furthermore, you get experience in conducting, producing and publishing a magazine for web and print, as well as editorial work for sound and moving pictures in collaboration with external clients.
During the year you usually cooperate with other students from the other bachelor’s programmes, such as Art Direction.
In the third year, you specialise and professionalise yourself within the main areas of the Text & Copywriter programme, choosing among market communication, editorial communication and artistic texts. The year ends with an extended period of practical training and dissertation.
Internship
During the teaching of your future profession, you will gain practical insights into processes, workflows and business areas. That is why the third-year includes a placement period of 8 weeks. You are free to choose an internship based on the subject areas you have immersed yourself in during the second year, something you are passionate about and want to pursue further.
Through the internship, you are working on real projects and clients in for instance advertising and communication agencies, magazines, television production companies or with your own projects.
In addition the internship is a good opportunity for dedicated students to display their abilities. It is not uncommon that skilful students are offered a permanent job.

Entrance examination
